China - Institutions addressing Land Resources Management and Cadastre


The Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)

Founded in 1999, it is China’s research organization in geography, natural resources and geo-information sciences.  The Institute adopts six research directions:
  1. Processes and Patterns of Water and Biogeochemical Cycles of Land Surface Systems;
  2. Mechanism of Human-Land Interactions and Regional Development;
  3. Observation, Mechanistic Analysis and Integrated Assessment of Ecosystem Changes;
  4. Geoinformation, Mechanism and Resource-Environment Information System;
  5. Resources Utilization Strategies and Regional Sustainable Development;
  6. Agricultural Development and Policy.
IGSNRR has 512 staff members (396 research staff and 116 supporting staff), including 10 academicians (elected members) of CAS and CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering), 10 National Outstanding Young Scientists Awardees (highest honors given to scholars under the age of 45), and 7 young scholars who are part of the “One hundred Talents Program” of CAS.

The Institute, among others, houses one national key laboratory (State Key Laboratory for Resource and Environment Information System) and one industrial center for GIS development. Moreover, the CSNR participated compiling the China Encyclopedia of Resources Science, a huge academic tool book edited by over 600 related scientists and experts under the organization of the CSNR. This encyclopedia is composed of two parts and 19 branches.

China Land Surveying and Planning Institute

China land Surveying and Planning Institute (CLSPI) was established in March 1987 and is a non-profitable and fundamentally professional organization belonging to the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) of People's Republic of China. The main responsibility of CLSPI is to provide theoretical support and technical guarantee for land administration and policy decision-making conducted by MLR, and improve innovation and industrialization in land science and technology.

The China Land Science Society

convened its sixth general assembly in Beijing on September 27. Mr Xu Shaoshi, Minister of Land and Resources, sent a congratulatory message to the assembly. Prof. Zou Yuchuan, chairman of the fifth Council of the Society delivered an opening address. The general assembly examined and approved the work report delivered by the fifth Council and the newly revised statutes, elected new members, executive members, chairman, vice chairman and secretary-general of the Society's Council and deployed the prime tasks for the future. Vice Minister of Land and Resources Wang Shiyuan was elected chairman of the new Council.
