Domain thesauri - Alignments of standards - The case of CaLAThe

The domain of Land Administration is addressed by the ISO 19152:2012 Land Administration Domain Model (LADM) as well as by the OGC Land and Infrastructure Conceptual Model Standard (LandInfra) with the InfraGML encoding standards, Parts 0 - 7 incl.

A domain thesaurus like the Cadastre amd Land Administration Thesaurus (CaLAThe) offers an obvious means for mutual alignment of domain standards. With colleagues, a focus on code lists was proposed in April 2018, and a development of the idea will be presented in the upcoming LADM workshop, October 2019: 'Code list management supported through a controlled domain vocabulary'.

The realization of this idea is possible when the domain thesaurus and the code list names and values are recorded in the same SKOS-based formalism.

A proof of concept has been developed: CodeListTest2208.rdf. It may be explored through the SKOS Play facility http://labs.sparna.fr/skos-play/ by using the SKOS Play option of ‘On the web, ..’ and refer the mentioned .rdf file. SKOS Play offers among others a ‘print’/ alphabetical index, as well as a three visualization (Click on the filled nodes to expand).

The above CodeListTest demonstrates that in CaLAThe the term Surveyor appears with Licensed surveyor, Land surveyor, and Certified surveyor, and thus calls for possible alignment.

The issue is further developed during 2020, see LADM - LandInfra alignment
