Development Agencies
The purpose of this note is to provide an overview of development agencies,
departing from the one provided in Holstein: Towards best practice from
World Bank experience .. (1996).
1. Multi-lateral development
2. Bi-lateral development, European donors
Multi-lateral development
Ongoing reorganization is reported by the UNDP, in summary of Urban
Management Programme. It states:
-
..jointly executed by the World Bank and UNCHS in collaboration with UNDP.
-
.. UNCHS as the executing agency, ..World Bank .. associate agency and
UNDP .. the key funding agency.
-
.. UNCHS as the executing agency, while UNDP provides core funding and
overall monitoring.
The major financing is provided by the Governments of the Netherlands,
Sweden and Switzerland while Germany, Finland and the United Kingdom provide
parallel and in-kind support.
The ongoing Third Phase, .. the Programme’s work into the three thematic
areas of poverty, environment and governance issues. Currently 100
activities have been undertaken to date in 50 countries in areas such as
urban administration and management, micro finance and access to credit,
sustainable infrastructure, land tenure, .., ..
Bi-lateral development, European donors
-
Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ),
with a Land Management
programme
-
FINAID
-
SIDA
-
DANIDA, the Danish aid organisation now takes an interest in cadastral
matters, too, namely as far as concerns Bolivia.
Notice, that the GTZ
approach is not primarily economic:
"Problems of Land Tenure and its systems demand answers to questions
on
-
the control of power,
-
securing and the security of fundamental rights, and
-
the creation of prerequisites for long-term, productive investments. .."
The GTZ has established Guiding
Principles: Land Tenure in Development Cooperation. This very valuable
documentation includes a glossary
(English / German / French) and literature references, as well as a link-page
with reference to FIG sites as well as to FAO.
